March 4, 2017 Minutes
NOTE: Due to the delightful painting party that took place today, only a brief business meeting was held. The Painting Party was led by Rachel Dugan of the Painted Picket Studio.
I. Ruthy called the meeting to order at 11:08 am.
II. Members in Attendance: Andrea Antico, Diane Chambers, Donna Clark, Kelly Ann Compton, Ruthy Wexler, Shelley Harding, Virginia Small, and Kay Taylor.
III. Guests in attendance: Suzy King, Ruth Windmiller, Anita Robinson, and Regina Connors.
IV. Guest Critique Discussion:
a. Arapahoe Community College will not be sending anyone to the guest critique this year. It was reported that some of the students did not feel supported last year and that they didn’t know that NLAPW was a group composed of professional writers. We were invited to contact them next year and perhaps begin afresh.
b. We discussed this and are not sure where we went wrong a we remember that all the writers shared very interesting well-written pieces and our habit is to give encouragement. We shared ideas on how to make the critique more useful and supportive including giving handouts and sharing self-experiences.
c. Thank you to everyone who has passed out flyers for this year’s Guest Critique. We have placed them in libraries, churches and several other places. So far, between 6 and 8 individuals have contacted Ruthy with interest in attending.
d. Reminder: The Guest Critique will take place on April 8th NOT the 1st.
e. Luncheon: Kelly Ann will take care of getting lunch orders; We have decided to provide dessert ourselves rather than having it catered with the box lunches. Ruthy will make a GF cake and Kelly Ann will make a Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake. We will also have balloons to celebrate the 120th anniversary of NLAPW.
f. Kelly Ann will send a notice out on Monday sharing all of the Guest Critique details with Denver Branch members.
V. Announcements: Kay announced a new Stories on Stage production being held March 12th at 1:30 and 6:30
VI. The meeting was adjourned at 12:40 pm
