National League of American Pen Women—Denver Branch Minutes

March 5, 2022

  1. Diane called the meeting to order at 9:35. The meeting took place via Zoom.
  2. Members in attendance: Diane Chambers, Atlanta Sheridan, Linda Volin, Ray Cober, Karen Gonzales, Sue Luxa, Carol Ehrlich, Eleanor Binnings, Cindy Massey, and Kelly Ann Compton
  3. Guest in attendance: Maria Ramirez
  4. Inspirational Reading: Andrea read fun quotes about Amazon.
  5. The February minutes were approved.
  6. The Treasurer’s Report was approved.
  7. Committee Reports:
    1. Website: The website is running smoothly.
    2. Historian: This position is open. Linda will be taking the book she and others put together from our interviews with one another and will write an article for The Pen Woman magazine.
    3. Membership: Since we’ve been meeting on Zoom, more people have been interested in joining Pen Women. Diane has had a little difficulty getting the meeting information posted on Colorado Writers’ Cafe.
    4. Tapestry for Peace: Karen Gonzales shared that Good News Church is interested in having one of the tapestry sections for their church. Diane stated that she has four boxes of the tapestry left. Ray is checking with Pikes Peak Community College and Karen shared that St. Paul John High School, a new school, might be interested. She will check it out.
    5. Many thanks: Carol shared her thanks to Atlanta for all her work for the Intensive Critique Group. Diane thanked Atlanta for her help as Vice President of our branch. Sue gave thanks to Karen Gonzales for her program planning.
    6. Programs: April—No speaker as of yet; May—A speaker on writing “The Whole Story is Greater Than the Sum of Their Parts”; Sue suggested that maybe we could watch a webinar for one of our programs.
  8. Old Business:
    1. Diane reminded everyone to give Kelly Ann feedback on their information for our branch directory.
    2. Regarding the book on our members: Do we want to print hard copies? If we sent a copy to National, what would they do with it? Sue and Linda offered to send branch articles to National. We do need two hard copies. One for the archives at Denver Public Library and one for our Historian.
  9. New Business:
    1. It is time for the election of new officers. Cindy is working on polling our members for interest in becoming President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
    2. Ann brought up our annual donation to Poetry-To-Go. We will discuss that next month.
    3. Members of National need to send their ballots for the election of National officers as soon as possible.
  10. Announcements: Carol had a poem accepted for publishing. It is a poem regarding the regrowth after the fires and will be attached to a published picture.
  11. Diane adjourned the meeting at 10:29 AM.
