National League of American Pen Women–Denver Branch

Meeting Minutes

September 10, 2016

I. Ruthy Wexler called the meeting to order at 10:13 a.m.

II. Members in attendance were: Diane Chambers, Donna Clark, Kay Taylor, Kathleen Visovatti, Virginia Small, Lorraine Walker Williams, Andrea Antico, Beverly Chico, Kelly Ann Compton, Ruthy Wexler, Jody Glittenberg

III. Guests in attendance: Lucy Powers and Kimberly Hamelin. Kimberly is joining Pen Women!

IV. Inspirational Reading: Diane read “The Empty Bucket” by Elizabeth Gilbert from the book Big Magic.

V. The July Minutes were not yet ready for approval and as we did not meet in August, there were no Minutes.

VI. The July and August Treasurer Reports were approved.

VII. Committee Reports:

A. Website: Virginia will put in a link to the NLAPW National website to the applications for membership.

B. Tapestry: All sections of the Tapestry are now packed in boxes and stored in various members homes. Ruthy wrote an article for the Fall issue of Pen Woman Magazine. The deadline for contest entries has been moved to February.

C. Membership/Auditor/Budget: Donna suggested that we pass out flyers for our Branch. The possibility of a mass mailing was also discussed. As a non-profit, postage would be lower.

D. Programs: Juanita will be our presenter in October. We will meet at the Eloise May Library.

VIII. Old Business:

A. The Painting Class/Party has been rescheduled for March, 2017.

IX. New Business:

A. Meeting locations: We will meet at Eloise May Library in October; as Gwen will be out of town, we will need a new meeting place for our December Holiday gathering.

B. It was suggested that we give a coffee table book on elephants to Julie, the woman who stored the Tapestry for us.

VIII. Announcements:

A. October 15 is a meeting for Heart of Denver Romance Writers

B. Ruthy wrote a guest editorial for the Glendale Cherry Creek Chronicle and has now been asked to write for them on a regular basis.

C. Andrea’s daughter is teaching two cooking classes for the Colorado Free University

D. Kay announced the play “Dogs vs Cats” will be performed by Stories on Stage on Sunday, September 18.

E. Jody expressed thanks for the many cards and well wishes.

IX. The meeting was adjourned at 11:08.
