Meeting Minutes
March 5, 2016
I. Ruthy Wexler called the meeting to order at 9:57 a.m.
II. Members in attendance were: Diane Chambers, Beverly Chico, Donna Clark, Kelly Ann Compton, Ruthy Wexler, Jody Hinrichs, Ann Klaiman, A. Marie Kriss, Nancy Peterson, Virginia Small, and Kathleen Visovatti.
III. Introduction of guest: Carol Casper
IV. Inspirational Reading: Ruthy read an excerpt from a letter written by Candace Long, NLAPW President that was in the Winter 2016 issue of Pen Woman Magazine. A discussion then evolved about how women have been viewed through history.
V. The Minutes for February were approved.
VI. The February Treasurer Report was approved. The current balance is $2,264.82.
VII. Committee Reports:
A. Website: Virginia reported that the website is up-to-date and going well.
B. Tapestry: Kriss spoke with Mackintosh Academy, an International Baccalaureate school about the Tapestry for Peace and the possibility of dividing it up among schools around the world. A tentative meeting has been set for the tapestry committee to meet with the head of Mackintosh Academy.
C. Membership: The Guest Critique will be held in April.
D. Outreach: No reports
VIII. Old Business:
A. Kelly Ann shared a thank you note from National for the donation we made to the endowment fund.
B. We continue to collect emergency information for our members. If you have not done so yet, please contact Kelly Ann.
IX. New Business:
A. Results from the election for Denver Branch officers were reviewed and approved.
B. The National elections and the issues involved were discussed. Everyone was reminded to look at the amendments up for a vote separately from the slate of officers.
C. Diane suggested that we invite Polly Letofsky for a workshop on getting books published and magnified on Amazon. It would be a two hours talk and would cost us $100-150.
D. Kelly and Kriss reminded members that annual dues are coming up.
VIII. Announcements:
A. Nancy will be speaking at the Aurora Museum Foundation on March 13 about the home front in WWII. She will share about her novel Not to be Forgiven.
B. Beverly will teach a class at the Academy of Life Long Learning on March 9 called “Headwear in History.”
IX. The meeting was adjourned at 11:05.
Our speaker following the meeting was Karen Lausa who spent 25 years as a librarian and six years ago started a program called Words Beyond Bars where she holds book groups with persons in prison.
